American restaurant usually differ from many types of distinct restaurant concepts to choose from (fast food, fast casual, family style, fine dining, café or bistro, buffet and pop-up restaurant) and when it comes to American food, they are known for the stuff that is suited for creamy, greasy and grinding built-up result.
I am a self-confessed American food fan!
As far as I know, American food is embraced with Filipino culture that is closer to Filipino heart and palate including (of course!) their widely accepted comforting dishes which are all irresistible, glorious and pleasurable to eat. It is always fascinating to eat and relish the American food that’s all fun, colorful and alluring for food-goers and considered a perfect comfort food whenever your tummy craves for some filling and deep-seated feasting experience. Take a bite of its juicy burgers and hotdogs and crispy fries and fried chicken all followed with a tons of fluffy pancakes, lightly-prepared salads down to its rich-serving and delectable steaks, barbecue and other main dishes and ending with saccharine and sugary delight of red velvet cakes, doughnuts and a lot more!
In the local restaurants scene, I am always on a lookout for the newest and possibly the best American concept restaurant that will surely satisfy my craving for a mouthwatering selections of American food. And I guess I found a new one and that is Grind Bistro!
Grind Bistro is the newest and latest purveyor of American food to hit the growing population of foodie enthusiasts in the metro serving classic and contemporary American cuisine with a trendy twist and touch of Filipino flair situated in the vibrant and cosmopolitan Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City. Aside from its flagship branch in BGC, Grind Bistro also has two newly-opened branches, The Block in SM North Edsa in Quezon City and SM Aura also in Taguig City.
This American casual and upscale dining restaurant is the brainchild of partners, entrepreneurs, food-loving couple and veterans of the food and hospitality industry Steven and Cristina Imperial Carl who personally manages the over-all operations and the services of the restaurant.
Ensuring the distinctive flavors of the restaurant offering is no less than Chef Steven, former Director of Food and Beverage at the Hyatt in the United States while his wife Cristina (previously as head of the hotel operations) handles the over-all service and operations of the restaurant. One of the reasons of putting up a restaurant is their passion of hosting dinner and elaborate parties for their friends and relative’s way back when they were still living in Maui, Hawaii where they usually cooked their personal and favorite specialty dishes, and their restaurant (Grind Bistro) has become their avenue to develop and create a more personalized culinary ingenuity and somehow, an extension of their home and lifestyle (from what they used to be when they were still living in the US).
The fine location of Grind Bistro at the posh Netpark Building is a fitting place for the stylish bistro that exudes elegance and sophistication. Enclosed by mostly glass walls, the spacious dining place has a cozy and intimate setting vibe with an interesting interplay of interior pieces fashioned in a truly refreshing atmosphere and modern manner. Its bright lighting and alluring decors flawlessly weave together giving each guests a relaxing dining experience complimented by its comfortable (customized) chairs and tables, leisurely music, magnificent wall paintings, fine fixtures, and an open floating wine bar with great collection of imported wines and other beverages. There is also a function area in the 2nd floor ideal for private functions and events and at the same time the in-house commissary kitchen of Chef Steven. The place is best for intimate and romantic dinner, lunches with family and friends and business meetings with office colleagues and business partners. The dining area can accommodate up to 80 seats while the alfresco area has around 20 chairs available.
Grind Bistro features redefined American comfort food featuring the Chef’s creative fusions and impressive food selections ranging from its lightly-prepared appetizers, soups and salads to festive large plate main dishes, burgers and sandwiches to luscious desserts and beverages and personally-crafted cocktails, beers and frosty libations. They also support local farmers and communities as most of their ingredients were sourced-out locally except the US Angus Beef.
An enjoyable meal is not perfectly complete without a yummy appetizer dish! One of the best-sellers and personalized starter dish is the uniquely-inspired (haven’t tried similar to this locally) Poke Nachos (P 495), a pleasant to the taste, enjoyable in every bite and picture-perfect ahi tuna marinated in soy, chili and sesame, local chevre, orange and wasabi tobiko, pico de gallo, taro and sweet potato crisps.
Their signature creations and house specialties also include the warm starter duo of flavorful vegetable soups served on a petite white glass like my favorite Tomato Bisque (P 220), a creamy and nutritious soup with the aromatic vegetables crème fraiche and pesto giving a palatable homemade taste and the fantastically-healthy Asparagus Soup (P 220), a silky smooth, super-green and tasty made from fresh spring asparagus paired with the homemade freshly-baked bread. Yes, you read it right, they baked their own in-house breads in their commissary that is guaranteed freshly-baked everyday. I will surely recommend these two vegetable soups if you want a healthy stuff before starting your meal on a high note.
Here comes my favorite, the best-seller and big-serving signature Grind Burger (P 395) made from 100% USDA beef, brioche from the oven, American cheese and Tiny’s secret sauce served with potato chips. This perfectly-grilled American classic burger is now a familiar dish among burger lovers (including me!!!) mainly because of its thick, juicy and flavorful beef patty, other carefully-selected ingredients and the tasty freshly-baked homemade burger buns.
Another personal favorite in the large plates offering is the crowd-pleasing and scrumptious main dish specialty Nutty Black Chicken (P 595), a delicately-cooked stellar dish with a perfect mix of flavors that consists of black tempura, hazelnut romesco and sweet chili sauce. It’s one-of-a-kind texture, taste and over-all presentation bring up this menu as one of the favorite signature main dish offerings among its regular diners.
On the desserts and sweets department, the appealing and another innovative creation menu called Halo-Halo Shake (P 450) is a tastefully wonderful treat for your sweet tooth craving that looks and tastes delightful. Inspired by the iconic and popular Filipino dessert with a wide array of delectable ingredients ube and langka ice, nata de coco, candied saba, leche flan and dulce de leche cream. A must-try refreshment especially during hot weather and summer season.
For some relaxing night out and light conversation setting up a nightlife mood, take a glass of one of the refreshing signature cocktails Queen Itch (P 280) , a Jasmin-Green Tea infused gin with herbal vinegar, pandan syrup and cucumber spear and pink peppercorns served with complimentary potato chips.
A truly unique American bistro experience! Offering such sumptuousness is Grind Bistro, your go-to and must-try restaurant in BGC offering wonderfully diverse menu options that will surely satisfy your craving palate.
