Bistro-type of restaurant is commonly identical to a quaint and somehow inexpensive dining brand which serves food in a moderate prices confined in a casual or modest setting. Bistros is commonly identified and defined by the food they serve usually simple and creative home-style cooking and slow-cooked dishes such as sandwiches, salads, soups and other traditional comfort food with some ingenious take. Sometimes, depending in our mood, we switch to go to a café-inspired foodie destination that is synonymous to a place that offers variants of coffee, tea and other kind of hot beverages. Typically, café’s ambiance is closely associated to a coffee shop that pictures a relaxing ambiance alongside its comfy tables and chairs (or sofas and long bench), a bookshelf containing books and magazines of different interests and a counter where you can order and purchase various types of coffee and finger-food specialties like sandwiches, muffins, cakes and other pastry items.
All these elements of a fine blend of American, Western and locally-loved culinary colors and tastes can now be satisfied and enjoyed at Grind Café + Bistro. The café which opened its doors to the public in last quarter of 2016 is becoming a favorite destination among the growing foodies population in the business and commercial district in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City and in other parts of the metro.
Grind Café & Bistro is actually a namesake of its parent brand Grind Bistro located at Net Park Plaza, also in BGC, is the more casual version and confined in an engaging and open dining area that occupies an inviting space at the 3rd floor of SM Aura in BGC, Taguig City.
If you want to know more about Grind Bistro, you may check-out my blog which I had visited late last year. Here’s the link.
Grind Bistro + Cafe exudes a laidback countryside ambiance and promotes a very home-feel and relaxing atmosphere. It has a striking lightings, manifestly refined paintings with artistic illustrations (mostly foodie quotations), stylish coordination of its wooden, brick and glass walls, minimalist and comfy tables and chairs and the open kitchen giving a little glimpse of their specialties before they get served to your table.
The café also has a quaint, open area and no-walls design al-fresco set-up which stylishly combined together modern pieces and adornments and promotes an air of refinement. Adding upbeat vibe are the chiller full of displayed best-seller cakes (actually, very tempting when you look at it! Haha), 4 installed plasma TV screens showcasing its variety of milkshakes, cakes and other menu offerings where diners can have a snap of the dishes they want to order and the illuminating and eye-catching signboards (especially the main comfort food offerings such as coffee, ice cream, cakes and chicken). This overflow area outside is actually my favorite spot as it has a cool and friendly vibe especially if you preferred to stay in an open area and at the same time to accommodate more guests during peak hours.
“Were serving all-time favorite comfort food”, Chef Ross Ronquillo explains. “Due to increasing innovations in the local culinary scene, we created and enhanced our menu with a touch of Filipino taste and international flair”, he added. Chef Ross is one of the resident Chefs in the dining brand (both in Grind Bistro in Netpark and the café in SM Aura). He has an extensive work experience carried on his portfolio both in the hospitality and F&B industry locally and abroad.
Ensuring the signature culinary offerings of the restaurant and café are the hands-on owners and passionately-involved couple Chef Steven Carl, former Director of Food and Beverage at the Hyatt in the United States and his wife Cristina (previously as head of the hotel operations) which handles the over-all service and operations of the restaurant.
Grind Café and Bistro promises to bring out innovative home-style yet redefined modern food and comforting dishes that are all satisfying, good-for-sharing and worth the bucks for your tummy craving.
Start your food quest with extensive range of delightful starters like the fun alternative to traditional size-hamburgers Slider Trio (P 395), a scrumptious, juicy and gorgeously-presented trio of Mini Grind Burger, Black Chicken and Pulled Pork. A really fun snack that kids and kids alike will surely love.
Another great food selection that screams “must-try” where you can include in your order list is the signature and finely-crafted Flatbreads available in four variants. I was able to try two of its best-sellers and soft but slightly charred flatbreads, the healthy and colorful Veggie (P 295) consists of succulent taste and flavors of its homemade marinara sauce, sundried tomatoes, Kalamata olives, artichokes, capers, roasted peppers, and the classic and tasty Four Cheese (P 275) topped with Ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan and provolone. The other two flatbread offerings are Shrimp + Pesto (P 295) topped with basil, pesto, roasted garlic, arugula, roasted peppers and toasted pine nuts and Sporkie (P 295) made of freshly ground sausage, caramelized onions and sundried tomatoes. Keep in mind though that these flatbreads are available only in the SM Aura branch!
One of the favorites in the entrée list (large plates/mains) is the must-try, savory and grilled to perfection Chuck Eye Steak (P 750) with the tastily soft-cooked USDA chuck eye steak and other succulent ingredients like steak butter, asparagus, sautéed mushrooms, crispy onions, and a choice of rice or French fries on the side. This fire meat classic and gastronomic treat will surely satisfy meat lovers around, trust me!
Another favorite comforting food is the Grind Fried Rice (P 375) that is loaded with ground beef, soy and garlic, topped with a sunny egg and secret sauce, toasted brioche on the side. This sure-fire favorite has a perfect balanced of stickiness and interplay of flavors that will go perfectly to any main dishes available in the menu. It will surely give an appetizing experience locally considering that rice is a culinary centerpiece and a major mainstay in the Philippine cuisine.
Finally, to cap-off your feast, there are wide-array of luscious pastries, desserts, shakes and refreshments to bring a kind of happiness that can only be explained by your sweet tooth.
Topping the list of their specialty cakes is the rich, creamy and lusciously-flavored Salted Chocolate Cake (P 180) that will surely give you a blissful sweetness on your plate. Better check out also the other interesting and distinctive specialty cakes available in the cakes collection.
If you are a milkshakes lover, Grind Bistro + Café is indeed a perfect place to indulge with the café’s celebrated and whimsical collection of milkshakes sensation headlined by the best-selling and vanilla-flavored delight Malted Vanilla Shake (P 225). If you are looking for more choices from its variety of crafted shakes, you should try the big-serving and another set of picture-perfect Earthquake Specialty Milkshakes (Vanilla Earthquake and Malted Chocolate Earthquake).
They also deliver within the BGC area and accepts catering services for party, meetings and events.
Grind Bistro and Café is an endearing one-stop haven you can hang out in to devour into flavorful comfort food, creative culinary offerings and playful menu presentations where guests are treated to a relaxing dining experience and countryside-themed restaurant vibe that fulfills your every dining wish.
